As great as Paul Pierce was at KU, it’s hard to expect a Hall of Fame-worthy NBA career. That’s where he’s headed though – a first ballot entrant, and that’s The Truth. I’ve attended some memorable Senior Night games at Allen Fieldhouse, but his 31 point game against Oklahoma in 1998 before he declared early for the NBA is tied for Archie Marshall’s appearance & shot in 1988 for the top spot. Now that I think about it, interesting how both those games involved coaches from Oklahoma (OU & OSU) who showed moments of recognition and class – Kelvin Sampson, giving Pierce a congratulatory pat as a timeout was called, and Leonard Hamilton, who let Marshall step onto the court to shoot an uncontested three. In any event, look for Pierce to be the last Celtic to ever wear the number 34.
